Japanese playwright Koki Mitua was absent from the live broadcast of Nippon TV's news programme, with anchor Anzen Anzai explaining that he was unable to return to Tokyo in time because he was filling in for a stage performance in Okayama. The announcement drew attention as Mitua is a frequent guest on the programme and his theatre commitments kept him from appearing as planned.
Why now: The surprise absence of a well-known playwright from a live news programme, explained on air, is drawing interest from Japanese entertainment audiences.
