California senator says AI is already firing workers
Original: Could AI fire you? California senator says it’s already happening
A California senator is raising the alarm that artificial intelligence is already being used to make termination decisions in American workplaces. The warning frames AI-driven firing as a present-day reality rather than a future risk, feeding a wider debate among lawmakers and workers about oversight of automated employment decisions and what protections employees have when algorithms determine who loses a job.
Why now: Growing public concern about AI replacing human judgment in high-stakes workplace decisions has made the topic politically urgent.
