Two Iranian diplomats expelled from US after overstaying UN summit
Original: 2 Iranian diplomats in US for UN summit overstay welcome, get kicked out
Two Iranian diplomats who travelled to the United States for a UN summit have been ordered out of the country after overstaying the terms of their visit. Iranian diplomats are normally restricted to the immediate area of UN headquarters in New York, and US authorities enforce strict limits on their movements. The removal adds fresh friction to already strained US-Iran relations, and reports are drawing attention to the rare public enforcement of these diplomatic constraints.
Why now: The expulsion of Iranian diplomats is a notable diplomatic incident amid already tense US-Iran relations.
