US expels two members of Iranian UN delegation
Original: Iranian UN delegation duo ‘kicked out’ of US: US State Department
The US State Department says two members of Iran's United Nations delegation have been expelled from the country. The move removes the diplomats' accreditation and is an unusual step against envoys assigned to the UN in New York. It comes at a time of already deep hostility between Washington and Tehran, and analysts are watching whether Iran will retaliate against American diplomats or UN operations.
Why now: The expulsion of UN-accredited diplomats is a rare escalation in US-Iran tensions.
