Original: # politics # money # oligarchs # California '...the top 99 individual and corporate political donors in California spent
A new analysis of California political spending finds that the top 99 individual and corporate donors spent more on campaigns and lobbying between 2005 and 2024 than the bottom 99.9% of the state's residents, businesses and organizations combined. Commenters are highlighting the figure as evidence of concentrated political influence by wealthy donors in the state.
Why now: The striking statistic about donor concentration in California politics is being shared as evidence of oligarchic influence on elections.
