A father accused of sexually assaulting his eleven-year-old daughter has been refused release by a French court, according to La Dépêche du Midi. The judge rejected his application for remise en liberté, meaning he will remain in detention while the case proceeds. The story is being circulated amid ongoing public debate in France over the handling of child sexual abuse cases and pre-trial detention decisions.
Why now: The gravity of the alleged offence and the court's refusal to release the suspect have drawn attention to how such cases are handled.
