Italian naturalist Jacopo Ranieri has published a new blog piece about stick insects, describing the pinned specimen of a herbivorous, nocturnal and solitary insect whose mimicry lets it pass for a twig. The post, tagged with topics like cryptism, forest ecology and camouflage, reflects on how these species blend into trees to survive, an observation readers are sharing within naturalist circles.
Why now: Nature and insect-mimicry content regularly circulates among Italian naturalist communities online.
