Original: Authorities in northeastern Spain restricted non-essential travel and suspended most commuter rail services on Saturday

Authorities in northeastern Spain restricted non-essential travel and suspended most commuter rail services on Saturday as extreme rainfall raised fears of new flooding. The measures come after flash floods in central-eastern Spain killed one person and forced around 90 people to evacuate. Officials are urging residents to stay home as the storm system moves across the region.

Why now: Renewed extreme rainfall and recent deadly floods have put Spain's emergency response in the spotlight.
