Merz mocked for AI-generated Olympic vision without pools
Original: No swimming pools, but Merz has AI paint him the Olympics – and sells it to us as policy
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz is facing ridicule after presenting an AI-generated image of the Olympic Games as part of a policy pitch, despite Germany lacking basic facilities such as swimming pools for a bid. Critics say the image is a gimmick substituting for real infrastructure planning, while supporters see it as forward-looking vision. The episode is fuelling debate over the government's use of AI in political communication.
Why now: A senior leader using AI imagery for Olympic policy has drawn mockery and concern about style over substance.
