Government quietly dropped plan to prepare England for wildfires

The Guardian reports that the UK government abandoned a plan to prepare England's countryside for wildfires without announcing the decision. The disclosure raises concerns about national readiness as wildfire risk grows with hotter, drier conditions. Critics are likely to press ministers on why the preparedness programme was shelved and what will replace it.
Why now: Growing wildfire risk linked to climate change makes the scrapped preparedness plan politically sensitive.
