Catastral rainfall forces travel restrictions in northeastern Spain

Original: Authorities in northeastern Spain restricted non-essential travel and suspended most commuter rail services on Saturday

Authorities in Catalonia, northeastern Spain, have banned non-essential travel and suspended most commuter rail services as extreme rainfall raised fears of fresh flooding. The emergency measures come as flash floods in central-eastern Spain killed one person and forced around 90 people to evacuate, reviving memories of the deadly floods that struck the Valencia region last year.

Why now: New flooding emergencies in Spain are prompting authorities to impose travel restrictions and suspend rail services, drawing wide attention.
