Florida hit by largest dengue outbreak in continental US in decades
Original: Florida's dengue outbreak largest in continental U.S. in decades
Florida is experiencing the largest dengue fever outbreak in the continental United States in decades, health officials say. The mosquito-borne illness, more common in tropical regions, has been spreading locally in the state, raising concern about how warming temperatures and travel may be expanding the range of the disease in North America.
Why now: Mosquito-borne dengue spreading locally at this scale is unusual for the continental United States and raises public health concerns.
