US Expels Two Iranian UN Diplomats
Original: Washington Expels Two Members of the Iranian Delegation to the United Nations
The United States has ordered the expulsion of two members of Iran's delegation to the United Nations in New York. As the UN's host country, Washington can deny or revoke visas and credentials for foreign diplomats it deems unacceptable. The move adds fresh tension to already strained US-Iran relations, and is being picked up across Middle East and international media.
Why now: Expelling Iranian UN diplomats escalates US-Iran tensions and touches on the sensitive precedent of the US as UN host nation.
