Original: Slugs gone, bugs gone, strawberries thriving as invasive lizards boom in B.C.
An invasive lizard species is booming in British Columbia, and gardeners report fewer slugs and bugs alongside thriving strawberry crops. The reptiles appear to be suppressing common garden pests, an unexpected upside to an otherwise unwelcome invasion. The story is drawing attention as residents weigh the ecological risks of the lizards' spread against their pest-control benefits.
Why now: An invasive species producing an unexpected ecological benefit is a surprising, shareable environmental story
