World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka and world No. 2 Elena Rybakina are both out of the China Open, removing the top two players in the WTA rankings from the Beijing tournament. The report also notes other players, including Charaeva and Bartunkova, moving through the draw. Their absence reshapes the tournament field and raises questions about the reasons behind the withdrawals.

Why now: The withdrawal of the world's top two players from a major WTA event is a significant, unexpected development in tennis.
