Indian Jews' forgotten role in Israeli politics revisited
Original: ‘Shiluv’: The forgotten story of Indian Jews in Israeli politics
An opinion piece revisits 'Shiluv' — integration — and the largely overlooked history of Indian Jews in Israeli political life. The article highlights how members of India's Jewish community, who immigrated to Israel in large numbers in the 1950s, remained marginal in national politics despite their successful integration into Israeli society. The piece argues their story deserves recognition in debates about identity and inclusion.
Why now: It sheds light on a little-known minority community's political history at a time of ongoing debates about Israeli identity and integration.
