Long-time Slashdot reader Andreas(R) has announced Northstar, a minimalist open source web browser written entirely from scratch in C, now at version 1.0.11. The browser follows a deliberately stripped-down design: one window, one page, one process. The project is drawing interest from tech communities as a rare example of a browser built without relying on existing engines like Chromium or Gecko.
Why now: Independent browsers built from scratch are rare, making this release notable in tech circles concerned with browser engine diversity.
