World leaders urged to back the Pacific ahead of COP31
Original: Pre-COP31: World leaders must show up for the Pacific through action, not just speeches
Amnesty International is calling on world leaders ahead of COP31 to commit to concrete action for Pacific nations rather than symbolic pledges. The human rights group says Pacific communities face severe climate impacts and need real support on emissions cuts and climate finance, warning that speeches alone will not protect island states from rising seas and extreme weather.
Why now: The COP31 climate summit is approaching, putting Pacific climate demands in the spotlight.
