Radio waves detected from a planet beyond the Solar System for the first time
Original: A planet beyond our Solar System sends an unprecedented signal: its radio waves detected for the first time
Astronomers report the first detection of radio waves coming from a planet outside our Solar System. The signal, described as unprecedented, marks a new way of studying exoplanets, since until now they were observed mainly through light-based methods such as transits and radial velocity. Researchers hope radio observations will reveal details about exoplanets' magnetic fields and atmospheres.
Why now: The reported first-ever radio detection from an exoplanet is a genuine scientific milestone that astronomy and science media are highlighting.
