Iran says Strait of Hormuz closed until US meets conditions
Original: Hormuz closed until US meets seven agreed conditions, Iran says Era of 'wasting time and dictating demands is over'; US
Iran's top negotiator says the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until the United States fulfils seven agreed conditions under a memorandum of understanding, declaring that the era of 'wasting time and dictating demands is over'. The statement raises the stakes in the standoff over the strategic waterway, a critical route for global oil shipments.
Why now: A closure threat to the world's most important oil chokepoint directly affects energy prices and US-Iran tensions.
