Nikkei Discloses Two More Account Breaches
Original: Nikkei disclosed two more account breaches on Oct 4: - Microsoft 365: an employee's account sent ~9,000 phishing emails
Japanese media group Nikkei disclosed on October 4 that two more of its accounts were compromised. A Microsoft 365 employee account sent roughly 9,000 phishing emails on September 30, including to news sources, while a Google Workspace account was accessed from late July and discovered only after Google alerted the company, affecting 1,646 people. It follows an earlier Slack-related breach disclosed in November 2025.
Why now: The repeat security incidents at a major news organisation, including phishing emails sent to journalists, are drawing attention to its cybersecurity posture.
