A commentary is drawing attention to the rhetorical tactic of fearmongering, arguing that political movements routinely frame issues such as climate change, vaccines, wokeness, the New Right and China as an 'enemy at the gates' to pressure audiences. It uses the example of halitosis to illustrate how insecurity is exploited, and offers advice on building resilience to manipulative fear-based arguments.
