A new study published in Scientific Reports examines body awareness in Goffin's cockatoos, a parrot species already known for its problem-solving abilities. Researchers tested how the birds respond to challenges that require recognising their own bodies as obstacles, adding to evidence of sophisticated cognition in parrots and fuelling debate about self-awareness in animals.

The findings are drawing attention among readers interested in animal cognition, as such awareness is rarely documented outside mammals and has implications for how bird intelligence is understood.
