A migrant dinghy heading for England's south coast drew crowds of protesters on shore, with scenes reported near Gosport, Hampshire. Tensions flared around theRNLI and local Conservative figures as the vessel crossed from the French side of the Channel. The incident adds to ongoing friction over small-boat crossings and the response by rescue and border authorities.
Why now: Small-boat crossings remain one of the most contested political issues in the UK, and confrontations between locals and arriving migrants draw strong reactions.
