Original: Egypt’s Sisi and Sudan’s Burhan discuss efforts to end war
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and Sudanese army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan held talks focused on efforts to end Sudan's war, which has raged since fighting broke out between the army and the Rapid Support Forces in April 2023. Egypt has positioned itself as a key mediator, and the meeting signals continued regional diplomacy around ceasefire attempts and Sudan's worsening humanitarian crisis.
Why now: Sudan's war remains a major regional crisis, and diplomatic moves by neighbouring powers draw close attention.
