Egypt's Sisi and Sudan's Burhan meet over ending the war
Original: Egypt’s Sisi and Sudan’s Burhan discuss efforts to end war
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and Sudan's army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan met to discuss efforts to end the war raging in Sudan. The talks focused on ways to stop the fighting between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, which has devastated Sudan since April 2023. Egypt, a close backer of Burhan's government, has positioned itself as a key mediator in the conflict.
Why now: The war in Sudan remains a major regional crisis and any high-level diplomacy aimed at ending it draws attention.
