How effective altruism reshaped global philanthropy

Original: The evolution of effective altruism

The Economist examines the evolution of effective altruism, tracing how the movement founded on maximising measurable charitable impact has grown from a niche philosophical idea into a major force in global philanthropy. The piece looks at how its adherents now influence billions in funding decisions, its shift toward long-term and existential risks, and the controversies that have accompanied its rise.

Why now: A major new analysis of the movement's growing influence in philanthropy and tech funding has drawn attention.
