Hegseth creates Pentagon 'spiritual fitness' office with no oversight
Original: Hegseth builds a Pentagon 'spiritual fitness' bureau — with zero oversight between it and his desk
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has established a new 'spiritual fitness' bureau at the Pentagon that reportedly reports directly to his office without any intermediate oversight. Critics are raising concerns about the separation of religion and the military chain of command, while supporters frame it as a focus on troop morale and resilience. The structure of the office, answering only to Hegseth, is the main point of controversy.
Why now: The direct reporting line to Hegseth with no oversight raises concerns about religion in the military and concentrated power.
