US Army tests counter-drone tech at Mexican border
Original: US Army tests counter-drone tech at Mexican border as cartel drone use rises
The US Army is testing counter-drone technology along the border with Mexico, according to Reuters. The trials come as Mexican drug cartels increasingly use small commercial drones for surveillance and other purposes, prompting the military to field and evaluate systems that can detect and neutralise them. The deployment highlights growing concern in Washington about cartel tactical capabilities and border security.
Why now: Cartels' rising use of drones has raised alarms about border security, making the military's response newsworthy.
