Jack Smith testifies before Senate Judiciary Committee
Original: WATCH LIVE: Jack Smith testifies before Senate Judiciary Committee as GOP targets past Trump probes
Former special counsel Jack Smith is testifying publicly before the Senate Judiciary Committee, a rare appearance by a prosecutor who led the federal investigations into Donald Trump. Republicans on the panel are pressing him over the conduct of the probes into Trump's handling of classified documents and efforts to overturn the 2020 election, while Democrats are defending the investigations as lawful. The hearing is being carried live by major US news outlets.
Why now: Smith has largely avoided public comment since leaving the Justice Department, so his first on-the-record answers about the Trump probes are drawing intense attention.
