Dennis Hastert, the Illinois Republican who served as Speaker of the US House of Representatives from 1999 to 2007, has died at the age of 84. His later years were defined by disgrace: in 2015 he admitted to sexually abusing boys while a high school wrestling coach decades earlier and served prison time in a related federal case.
