Original: Whitney Museum Union Ratifies Contract on Eve of Strike
The union representing workers at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York has voted to ratify a new contract, averting a strike that had been scheduled to begin the following day. The agreement ends negotiations between staff and museum management, and comes amid a broader wave of unionization efforts at major US cultural institutions. Details of the contract terms have not been widely reported.
Why now: Labor organizing at major museums is drawing attention, and a last-minute deal before a strike is significant news in the cultural sector.
