The California State Athletic Commission has issued a cease and desist letter to Robot Entertainment Kombat, the group behind a fight event pitting a human against a robot. The letter, sent on September 23, warns the organisation over the unsanctioned bout. The event has drawn attention for blending combat sports with robotics, raising questions about how regulators handle fights that fall outside existing rules.

Why now: A regulator intervening in an unusual human-versus-robot fight is novel and sparks debate about safety and oversight.
