Last Resort: The Forgotten 2012 Thriller Deserves a Second Look

Original: The Shield creator’s 2012 action series Last Resort is one of the best thrillers you never watched

Shawn Ryan, creator of The Shield, launched the submarine thriller Last Resort on ABC in 2012. The series followed a US Navy submarine crew refusing a questionable order and claiming their own island base, but it was cancelled after a single season. Critics and writers are now revisiting it as an overlooked gem of network television.

Why now: A renewed retrospective appraisal of the short-lived series has drawn attention to Shawn Ryan's work beyond The Shield.
