England off-spinner Shoaib Bashir is reported to be retaining his ECB central contract despite a limited role in the Test side, according to Cricinfo. The news is drawing comment from cricket fans, some puzzled that a player with modest game time continues to be centrally funded, others backing the selectors' long-term investment in the young spinner.

Why now: Fans are debating the England and Wales Cricket Board's decision to keep funding a spinner who has played little Test cricket recently.
