The European Parliament has approved a 115 million euro funding program called Agile to support defense startups, with money earmarked for artificial intelligence and drone technologies. Lethal autonomous weapons, often called killer robots, are explicitly excluded from the program. The debate centers on where Europe draws the line between funding military innovation and prohibiting fully autonomous deadly weapons.
Why now: The EU is expanding defense funding for startups while drawing an ethical boundary against autonomous lethal weapons, sparking debate.
