EU launches €115 million defence startup programme, excluding killer robots
Original: EU-Programm Agile: Millionen für KI und Drohnen – aber Rot für Killer-Roboter Das EU-Parlament hat ein 115 Millionen Eur
The European Parliament has approved a 115 million euro funding programme aimed at defence startups, supporting projects in areas such as artificial intelligence and drones. Lethal autonomous weapons, often called killer robots, remain explicitly excluded from the funding. Commenters are debating whether the exclusion strikes the right balance between boosting European defence innovation and upholding ethical red lines on autonomous killing systems.
Why now: The EU is ramping up defence investment amid security concerns, and the ban on funding autonomous lethal weapons is sparking ethical debate.
