Congress workers held a sit-in demonstration outside the Parliament Street police station in New Delhi in support of journalists, in a standoff involving the Delhi Police. The party's leaders framed the protest as a defence of press freedom, while police maintained a presence at the scene. The demonstration has drawn wide attention and sparked debate over the treatment of journalists and the use of police action against the press.

Why now: A major opposition party's protest against police treatment of journalists is fueling debate over press freedom in India.
