Emails show ICE trimmed training for deputized officers
Original: Emails show how ICE trimmed training for deputized officers
The Washington Post reports that internal emails reveal ICE shortened the training required for officers deputized to enforce immigration law. The records detail how the agency scaled back instruction for local and other personnel given federal immigration enforcement powers, a move critics say could affect preparedness and accountability as enforcement expands.
Why now: Deportation and immigration enforcement are under intense scrutiny, so evidence of reduced training for deputized officers is drawing attention.
