ICE Cut Training for Deputized Officers, Emails Show
Original: Emails show how ICE trimmed training for deputized officers
Newly reported internal emails reveal that US Immigration and Customs Enforcement shortened the training given to local police officers deputized under immigration enforcement agreements. The documents suggest the agency reduced coursework as it expanded partnerships with local law enforcement, raising questions about whether officers are adequately prepared for immigration duties.
Why now: The report lands amid intense national debate over ICE's rapid expansion of local deputization programs.
