Original: U.S. military to conduct first firing squad execution since World War II
The United States military is set to carry out its first execution by firing squad since World War II, according to NBC News. The unprecedented move, which breaks from the lethal injection methods used in recent federal executions, has drawn widespread attention and debate over capital punishment practices in the American military justice system.
Why now: The use of a firing squad, a method unused by the US military since World War II, makes this an extraordinary and controversial event.
