New tool offers sharded encrypted storage over Yggdrasil
Original: Sharded, encrypted storage between friends over Yggdrasil
A developer has released an open-source tool that stores data in encrypted shards across friends' machines, connected via the Yggdrasil mesh network. By splitting files between trusted peers, no single participant holds complete data, and encryption protects content in transit and at rest. Readers are discussing the privacy implications, the practicality of relying on friends for availability, and how it compares to existing distributed storage options.
Why now: Privacy-focused, self-hosted alternatives to cloud storage are drawing attention among developers interested in decentralised networking.
