Children wanted to rear harvest mice for Devon release
Original: Wanted: children to rear harvest mice at home for wild release in Devon
Two Devon teenagers, Eva Wishart and Emily Smith, have launched a project asking children to rear harvest mice at home before releasing them into the wild. The pair aim to breed and release 250 of the tiny animals by September, in an effort to boost local populations of a species that has declined sharply in the British countryside.
Why now: The unusual call for children to hand-rear wild mice at home is a striking conservation story drawing public interest.
