Lithuania weighs restricting Russian transit over plague report
Original: JUST NOW: Lithuania says it could restrict the transit of Russian citizens if a reported pneumonic plague case in Irkuts
Lithuania says it could restrict the transit of Russian citizens if a reported case of pneumonic plague in Irkutsk, Russia, is confirmed and poses a cross-border threat. The announcement ties potential border measures to the unverified health report, and is drawing attention as observers watch whether Russian authorities confirm the case and whether other neighbouring countries follow suit with their own restrictions.
Why now: A possible plague case in Siberia combined with the threat of EU border restrictions is a striking health-and-security story
