EU to ban lead gunshot over hunting pollution
Original: Lead gunshot will finally be banned across the EU – ending the largest remaining source of lead pollution from hunting and shooting
The European Union has moved to ban lead gunshot in hunting and shooting, a decision welcomed by BirdLife International as ending the largest remaining source of lead pollution from these activities in Europe. Lead ammunition has long been known to poison wildlife, particularly waterbirds that ingest spent pellets and scavengers that feed on carcasses containing fragments.
Why now: The EU's adoption of the ban is a major environmental policy change that conservation groups have campaigned for over many years.
