Original: RSF special tasks commander defects with 300 officers, soldiers in Sudan
The commander of the Rapid Support Forces' special tasks unit has defected along with some 300 officers and soldiers in Sudan, according to Anadolu Agency. The defection is a notable blow to the paramilitary force, which has been fighting the Sudanese army since April 2023 in a war that has displaced millions and driven large parts of the country into famine.
Why now: Defections from the RSF signal possible fractures in the paramilitary group amid Sudan's ongoing civil war.
