RSF special tasks commander defects with 300 troops in Sudan
Original: RSF special tasks commander defects with 300 officers, soldiers in Sudan
The commander of a Rapid Support Forces special tasks unit in Sudan has defected along with roughly 300 officers and soldiers, according to Anadolu Agency. The defection is a notable blow to the RSF as Sudan's civil war with the army continues, though details on where the defectors went or why they switched sides were not given.
Why now: The war in Sudan remains a major regional story, and a mass defection signals possible fractures within the RSF.
