ICANN has released a list of potential new top-level domains, the endings that appear after the dot in web addresses. Around 1,500 top-level domains currently exist, and the number could soon nearly double. The move expands options for organisations and brands seeking their own web address endings, and internet observers are discussing what the growth could mean for the domain market.
Why now: ICANN's release of the candidate list marks a major step that could nearly double the number of available domain endings.
