New gTLD Application Filed for .lan Domain
Original: New gTLD Application for .lan
An application for the .lan top-level domain has been submitted to ICANN as part of its new gTLD program, per the application summary published on ICANN's system. The .lan string is widely used today as a private, informal suffix for local home and office networks, so a public delegation could conflict with existing setups. Discussion is focused on what the application means for network administrators.
Why now: The .lan string is a de facto standard in private local networks, so a potential public top-level domain raises conflict concerns.
Rank over time, top of the chart is #1. 42 snapshots from 1 d ago to 33 min ago.
