Sudan army chief Burhan rejects talks, vows to defeat RSF
Original: Sudan war: Burhan rejects talks and vows to defeat RSF
Sudanese army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan has ruled out negotiations with the Rapid Support Forces and pledged to defeat the paramilitary group militarily. His comments come as the two-year war continues to devastate Sudan, displacing millions and deepening one of the world's worst humanitarian crises, with international mediation efforts so far failing to secure a ceasefire.
Why now: Ongoing fighting and failed mediation efforts keep the Sudan war in the news, and Burhan's outright rejection of talks signals an escalation.
